Who we are

Tau Publishing is an independent publisher in Carmel, Indiana. Since 2002 we have taken more than 200 books from first draft to finished, printed product: edited, designed, priced, barcoded, printed and delivered to readers.

We also design and manufacture consumer products, including jigsaw puzzles made in Indiana. That side of the business taught us the same lessons every home baker learns: what a product really costs to make, how to package and label it correctly, how to price it so the work pays, and how to keep customers coming back.

Why we built Home and Hearth Baker

Selling food from a home kitchen comes with regulations: what you may sell, where you may sell it, what the label must say, and how much you may earn in a year. They change from state to state and from year to year, and most home bakers are left to piece them together alone.

We started Home and Hearth Press to help. Our book, Starting and Building a Home Bakery Business, teaches the business from the first sale to the tax return. Home and Hearth Baker does the daily work: costing recipes, printing labels with your state's required wording, taking orders, and keeping your books, with all 50 states' regulations built in.
